The time-lapse makes dresser assembly look wonderfully brief. Real life includes the measurements, placement and decisions that happen before the last drawer slides into place.

If you are booking IKEA furniture assembly in Midtown Manhattan, a little preparation helps the appointment cover the whole job. The important question is not only “What needs assembling?” It is “What needs to be ready when the Guy leaves?”

Send the exact product, not just the furniture type

A dresser, a wardrobe and a wall of storage all sound like furniture. They create very different appointments. Send the product link or article number, quantity and, where available, the assembly instructions.

IKEA ranges such as BILLY and KALLAX come in different sizes and configurations. A product name alone may not tell us whether your project is one unit or a connected arrangement with doors, drawers and wall attachments.

  • Product link or article number for each piece
  • Number of units and any additional components
  • Photos of the intended location
  • Whether assembly, positioning or wall mounting is required
  • Existing furniture that needs disassembly or relocation

Measure the room and the route into it

Check the planned position against the assembled dimensions. Include baseboards, radiators, doors, windows and the space needed to open drawers. A wardrobe can fit the wall beautifully and still disagree with the bedroom door.

For larger pieces, also consider hallways, elevator doors and stair turns. Tell us about access restrictions before the appointment so the crew and work sequence can be planned around the actual apartment.

Plan anchoring and wall mounting at the same time

Assembly does not replace the manufacturer’s installation requirements. Some pieces must be secured to the wall; others are designed to be suspended. Share the instructions and photos of the wall when you book.

The mounting method depends on the furniture, wall construction and intended load. If your project includes floating storage, read our guide to assembly versus installation before choosing the scope.

Confirm building access and the work area

Midtown co-ops, condos and office buildings may have work hours, elevator reservations or insurance-document requirements. Ask management what applies and include it with the booking request.

Provide room to work and a clear route to the final location. If components are missing or damaged, note that before the visit; a replacement from the retailer may be needed before the piece can be completed.

Decide what happens to the packaging

Our Guys can break down packaging and take it to your building’s designated disposal area. Off-site removal requires separate arrangements and an additional charge. Include removal in the request so it is part of the plan.

Book the finished result

Furniture Assembly & Installation in Manhattan is $149 per hour for one Guy. Larger installations may need a team or a project estimate. We can also arrange furniture pickup, carrying items to the property, and disassembly, relocation and reassembly when the project calls for them.

The form should describe the result you need: one assembled dresser, a ready bedroom or a complete office. That is more useful than simply writing “IKEA.”
